About us

Who we are

Eyes are the priceless wealth of human life. There are no alternatives to eyes. All the beauties of the world are valueless to the one who has no eyesight. People lose sight due to varied reasons. Some are born blind while some others lose sight due to diseases, malnutrition or accidents. Only the person who loses sight can fathom the loss. People with functional eyes observe “White Cane Day” to show empathy for the helpless sightless people. Due to various reasons, 1 (one) percent people of in the country are visually-impaired. Of them, 80 percent are visually-impaired because of cataracts, which are preventable. Goodwill of all of us can restore their sight, helping them see the colors, beauties and light of the world.

With these objectives and goals in view, “Jatiya Andha Kalyan Samity” was founded on 30 January, 1969 at the initiative of several doctors, lawyers, social activists, journalists, teachers and philanthropists under the leadership of Dr. M. Wali Ullah at Badurtola in Comilla town. The Samity launched its operation a new in 1983 following restructuring. Later in 1991, the organization was registered under the name and style of “Bangladesh Jatiya Andha Kalyan Samity, Cumilla” for legality at the efforts of Dr. Zobaida Hannan. Message from President

It was a momentous day when I involved with BJAKS, Cumilla. Great women, Ekushey Padak winner Dr. Zobaida Hannan was main initiator of BJAKS, Cumilla. This initiative is not just about construction a building; it is about restoring vision, enhancing lives, and ensuring that no one suffers due to preventable blindness.

Vision is one of the greatest gifts of life. Yet millions suffer from visual impairments that could be treated with timely medical attention. It is our responsibility as a nation to provide accessible, affordable, and advanced eye care facilities.

This hospital is a step toward fulfilling that commitment. Equipped with modern technology, a dedicated team of medical professionals, and a mission to take people aware about prevention of blindness and provide specialized treatment for eye patients and rehabilitation of blind and visually handicapped people who can neither be helped by treatment nor surgery.

This institution will provide comprehensive eye care services. It will also focus on outreach programs, ensuring that even those in remote areas.

We all are dedicated to ourt goals and objectives. We always welcome any suggestions and feedback for development our institutions and services.

Since 30th January 1969 some dedicated social workers and physicians started to prevent the preventable blindness and treatment by surgical procedures initated by great efforts of Dr. Zobaida Hannan and Dr. M Waliullah, Ophthalmologist.

In 1991, The organization was registered under the Social Service Department for legality bythe efforts of Great women, Ekushey Padak Winner Dr. Zobaida Hannan. This hospital was established to provide quality eye care services.

The ability to see the world is a precious gift. Yet millions of peoples suffer from preventable blindness due to lack of timely medical care.

In early 90’s, BJAKS established Under 5 Clinic with the technical and funding assistance of RCSB-SSI. BJAKS undertook full scale Modular Eye Care (MEC) Project composed of prevention and cure of blindness through hospital services, community eye care works in partnership with RCSB-SSI in the year 1994. Through these works BJAKS, Cumilla turned to be a respectable organization providing a lot of humanitarian services and recorded a remarkable contribution towards reducing growth of cataract backlog and other blindness in the working area.

Our dedicated doctors & staves served surgical treatemnt over 4,00,000 patients in our own hospital network.

We all are dedicated to our purpose and goals. We always welcome any suggestions and feedback for improvement and we take those happily to strengthen our pathways.
